  1. The old man was covered with tattoos and scars
He got some in prison and others in bars
The rest he got working on old junk cars
    In the daytime
They looked like tombstones in our yard
And I never seen him when he wasn't tired and mean
He sold used parts to make ends meet
Covered with grease from his head to his feet
Cussing the sweat and the Texas heat
    And mosquitos
And the neighbors said we lived like hicks
But they brung their cars for pa to fix anyhow
He was veteran-proud, tried and true
He'd fought 'till his heart was black and blue
Didn't know how he'd made it through the hard times
He bought our house on the G.I. bill
But it wasn't worth all he had to kill to get it
He drank Pearl in a can and Jack Daniels black
Chewed tobacco from a mail pouch sack
Had an old dog that was trained to attack
    Sometimes
He'd get drunk and mean as a rattlesnake
    There wasn't too much
That he would take from a stranger
There were thirteen kids and a bunch of dogs
A house full of chickens and a yard full of hogs
I spent the summertime cutting up logs for the winter
Tryin' like the devil to find the lord
Workin' like a ****** for my room and board
    Coal-burnin' stove, no natural gas
If that ain't country, I'll kiss your ass
    If that ain't country
    It'll hair lip the pope
    If that ain't country
    It's a damn good joke
I've seen the Grand Ole Opry
    And I've met Johnny Cash
    If that ain't country
    I'll kiss your ass
Mama sells eggs at a grocery store
My oldest sister is a first-rate whore
Dad says she can't come home anymore
    He means it
Ma just sits and keeps her silence
Sister, she left 'cause dad got violent
    And he knows it
Mama she's old, far beyond her time
From chopping tobacco and I've seen her cryin'
When blood started flowin' from her calloused hand
    And it hurt me
She'd just keep working, tryin' to help the old man
To the end of one row and back again like always
She's been through hell since Junior went to jail
When the lights go out she ain't never failed
To get down on her knees and pray
    Because she loves him
Told all the neighbors he was off in the war
    Fighting for freedom
He's good to the core and she's proud
Now our place was a graveyard for automobiles
At the end of the porch there was four stacks of wheels
And tires for sale for a dollar or two
    Cash
There was fifty holes in an old tin roof
Me and my family we was living proof
The people who forgot about poor white trash
And if that ain't country, I'll kiss your ass
    If that ain't country
    It'll hair lip the pope
    If that ain't country
    It's a damn good joke
I've seen the Grand Ole Opry
    And I've met Johnny Cash
    If that ain't country
    I'll kiss your ass
I'm thinking tonight of my blue eyes
    Concerning the great speckled bird
    I didn't know god made honky-tonk angels
And went back to the wild side of life

when you wash, shite, and drink from the same polluted river, stuff might happen.

Yup, and in 2003 when the U.S.A. were willie-nillie blowing up bio-labs in Iraq, who knows what kind of shyte was released into the atmosphere.

  3. Another bull mix goes haywire:

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia police officer shot a dog that continued to attack its owners despite the couple's teenage sons hitting it with a baseball bat several times, authorities said.

Investigators said it happened just before 1 a.m. Thursday near where the family lived at the intersection of 5th and Venango streets in Hunting Park.

Police said the pit bull mix bit its 41-year-old male owner all over his body.

"He's bit on the head, the neck, several times in his torso, arms and legs and he has some large injuries from the dog bites on his body," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Small said the dog was locked onto its owner's arm while the man's 18 and 19-year-old sons struck it with a baseball bat trying to make it let go.

Police said the dog appeared to bite down harder every time it was hit and would not release.

An officer on the scene then took action.

"One police officer from the 25th district fired one shot striking the dog one time in the side and that did its job. The dog immediately released his grip, stopped biting this male," Small said.

Police said the man was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, but has been stabilized.

Investigators said the dog also bit the man's 38-year-old wife on the leg and left her with a large and severe injury.

If I were king, the police in this situation would have opened the door, and shot him dead in cold blood.

Really, we'd only have to kill a few thousand like this before the message sunk in and the animals would behave.

Absolutely!  Shots fired. No matter that he was shooting a door lock.  The police should have whacked him without uttering a single word.

ALL convictions of crimes committed with a firearm should be AUTOMATIC swift execution.  No matter if the firearm was not loaded or discharged or exhibited.  Crime with a firearm: automatic execution.  End of story.  No death row.  No appeal.  Off to the gallows.

Eh, 110 a disappointment? This is a team that will not win 100. Played under .500 for last 2 months. Like a 20-27 record. Be happy with 90 wins, if you get there. At .500 it’ll be 94 wins. And that is playing at significantly better than last two months.

Muts have been above .500 every single month. Consistent.

As it goes: Live by the HR,

                      Die by the HR

    Therein lie the NYY woes.

That was the other shoe dropping...lol.

Had not heard that about Harper since his Nats days. Harper doesn't seem anywhere near as brash now as he did then. Who knows?

Silly to think they're not a better team with Harper than without though..

For whatever reason, Harper got a LOT of bad press when he was in DC.  They always portrayed him as a dick.  Maybe he was?

However, I was amazed at how different a player Bryce was when he came to the Phils than the press in Washington reported.  I always thought he was PRO in Philly.  The dude works and PLAYS his butt off.  Maybe he doesn't take kindly to slackers with big egos.  But if he caused negative friction in the Phils clubhouse, I'm sure it would have been addressed at the time.  Especially when Girardi was there.

    Ditto.

No one has touched on this, but if this new kid Cabrera proves himself that may make IKF expendable.

Yeah, they should put him behind the plate Thursday night!  Or, put him on the hill!

Kidding aside, if he can stick, the Yanks may have something to work with regarding IKF.  But a few weeks do not a season make.  Time will tell... Funny stuff: my wife is worried that Cabrera won't be able to maintain his weight and strength in the rigors of MLB.

Technically “on pace” to win 110

I know I never Believed that would happen

We all know that injuries are a huge part of the game but if these guys were still playing in top form, 110 might have been a disappointment:

    Carpenter

    Greenie

maybe Castro - strange but true: 5-0 when his shoulder went stiff last month

    King

    Severino

and the last 25 games without Stanton

Just killin' time here...  healing up from a little foot surgery I had last Friday.

We're talking jive about "him," not Stanton.

Stanton is hurt alot, but I don't ever recall him taking a day off because he was emotionally distressed about racism in America.

To compare the .SLG of Stanton to Beni is not really serious conversation.

I'm missing something.  Who is Mike?

Mike Stanton is a.k.a. Giancarlo Stanton.  His name was Mike when he played for the Florida Marlins.

Calling him unreliable because of his health is reasonable, but when he's healthy, you'd rather have the filthy red sock?

I'd rather both and leave "him" on the bench, or even better, Designated For Assignment.

Yeah, used-to-be-Mike has 80 games under his belt this year and blistering .228 ba. and is slugging .1 higher than the filthy red sock.  As a DH he's terrific and I'd start him EVERY day as such.  However, and no I don't have a crystal ball, but I'm thinking we won't be seeing him very often as the season progresses.  I hope I'm wrong but if I were Yankee brass I wouldn't be banking on him.

i think they protect stanton more than any other player. big money and long term. he is a beast, and this year he looks like the MVP type stanton of '17. he is needed.

Yes all around.  But I don't think we'll be seeing much of him.  I'm projecting that Achilles will probably bring down Mike as he did Hector.  Well, not mortally but metaphorically.

The core of this offense needs to be DJ, Judge, Rizzo and Stanton.

It's on them to carry the team in such a manner that other players with potential, like Gleyber and Falafel, can lurk in bottom of the order and do unexpected damage without the pressure of having to carry the team.  And if they're going to keep turning double plays like that, th eoffense becomes a secondary concern.

Well... I agree with 3 of the 4.  Stanton is a beast at the plate.  BUT!, he's chicken shyt and doesn't play enough to make a difference.  I'll strike Stanton and replace him with Benny (or Beni?); he can keep the line moving or get on base for the timber -and he plays.

they almost gave that game away. torres needs a slap, his best quality is turning double play's and quick tags. his head in out in the bleachers. running to third with 2 outs on a 2-2 count on donaldson and the none throw at home on alfonso. BTW alfonso is a lumbering block of wood with legs. great hitter but... also judge stealing 2nd and taking the bat out of rizzo's hands and leaving it for torres to prolly strike out. boone needs to really step up and throw some chairs around. bad baseball. they were fortunate. good start, great pen last night.

Great points and observations.  This team needs an old-fashioned wakeup call in a pretty big way.  (Or, maybe a few more greenies in the coffee?  lol)  Boone should, at least, ACT! like a manager -ez for me to say given all of the injuries he's been dealt.

Regarding Torres: I'm wondering if he's mentally fatigued.  Drifting in and out during the game as if he's playing in fog.  Maybe he's wiping himself out due to his lack of offense?  Like Yogi said, 90% of the game is half mental.

Bottom 4th, 3-2, 2 out, Judge, SEE YA!  Cabrera strike to Higgy from shallow right in 5th. Ya gotta make that throw.  The kid did.  I think Wandy threw 4 pitches?  And then there's Torres racing a runner to 2nd and it never crossed his mind that a run was scoring?  wow.  Something very wrong there...

One of the folks I fished with yesterday was concerned their gulp juice turned brown. I noticed some me of my gulp packets contained juice that had browned. Is this detrimental to the effectiveness of the gulp baits that were immersed in the brown liquid?

The sacks I have state: Best if used 9 months after open.  Not sure what that means.  Open and wait 9 months?  LOL

I remember reading on a lid that there are "storage suggestions".  The solution is temperature sensitive to heat and cold, but I don't remember the specifics.  I read the lid after I noticed the solution turned brown over the winter.  I used it anyway and it didn't seem to negatively affect the catching capabilities.
