  1. That sure is some drummy lookin' water. I don't really remember this but I'm sure we just released one. Gonna miss Jeff...he was a good friend and one helluva guy.
  2. It's good line. A lot of guys have caught a lot of big fish with this line. I have never had a knot failure. Maybe you just got a bad spool.
  3. Shootin' up the town...New Castle, DE...about 1950.
  4. RAPA...Ralph and Paul Adams in Bridgeville. Every time I go up my standing breakfast order always includes scrapple. When the beach is closed as much as it was this fall I have plenty of opportunity for scrapple and I take advantage of every opportunity. I grew up in Sussex County and we ate tons of it. They have something called livermush down here but it ain't scrapple and I ain't eatin' it.
  5. I use a Triangle SC125. Works great for any reel, including spinners. Bought it about 25 years ago from a tackle shop going out of business - $200. New ones are $1400.
  6. Hey Drew. It's been awhile. Yeah, I had several 1502s and liked them a lot. They are pretty soft but I always clipped 3" off the tip...throws 8+ ok but a strong dude might find it a bit lacking. Might be wrong but I think back in the day the OBX drum guys used clipped 1502s. And we have a pal who catches big fish on a 1502. Still have one 1502 set up for the lady with a level wind reel. She's caught drum up to 42" with it but doesn't fish any longer. Bad back. I remember buying mudhole 1502 blanks with Lamiglas stickers on them. Dunno, but I suspect mudhole also got blanks from RS. Don't think there was much difference in any of those RS blanks. Build it and fish it, it'll work. Good to hear from ya.
  7. Well it mostly wasn't. And next to no fish. Sorriest trip ever. So my new 1569 remains a virgin except for a 5-6' shark, and they don't count. Oh well. Get 'em next year.
  8. 1903A3 Springfield...1965...$30 or so as I remember.
  9. This is the guy I listen to. He's caught tons of big fish. I should have listened better 'cause I didn't catch a fish. I think another benefit of mono is its stretch. You get a couple hundred yards of line out there with a big fish and that mono is like a big rubber band. It ain't gonna break. The fish might take it all but it ain't gonna break. And with a conventional you get to check every inch of that line when you put it back on the reel so any nicks or abrasions tell you to change that line before the next cast.
  10. What both these guys said. They catch a lot of big fish so they must be doing it right. I do the same thing only I might use a different line, shock leader, or rub leader. Same rig...it works.
  11. Pal caught a nurse shark the other day. First one I know of on the beach here. Warm water species?
  12. "This is the worst trip I've ever been on" The Beach Boys, Sloop John B, 1966 Well I hope they open more beach before I go home this weekend. I'd like to catch a few dozen more skates.
  13. One of those bait cannons might work even better. Wonder if those things have sights?
  14. You need one of those weighted treble hooks the bunker snaggers use.
  15. Grouchy old man having fun. Nov, 2008, OBX. Wet & nasty...drum time!
  16. Good deal. Glad you can use them. Send me a msg when you want to meet.
  17. Alas, no way. These things are marked 36 but are more like 38. You're welcome to try them but they'd fit like a circus tent.
  18. 1508 is spoken for. Who wants the pants???
  19. Can't get on the beach so might as well do this now. Two things. #1. Fishin' pants. Brand new...Googan brand...size 36. They are BIG. Nice pants. #2. Conventional heaver. It started life as a Rainshadow SUR1508. Alas, I managed to break 6" or so off the tip. The only tip top I had that would fit was for a boat rod so I glued that on. It will work ok. This thing is stiff...would throw a brick. My thought was to lob a whole bunker out 50 yds or so, put it in a heavy, well anchored spike and wait for a hog to show up. Caught a cow doing this a couple years ago. But I have another stick for that so don't need this one. Rod was wrapped by me, plain jane style with quality components. First "I want it" gets either item. Pick up by appointment at the Assateague Pointe parking lot on 611. It's a mile or so from Bucks. I'll be here until Oct 22. The only thing I ask is that somewhere down the line you do something for somebody.
  20. Yeah, I know. But I'm coming up anyway. Even if I have to sit around for a couple weeks, I'm coming. I can always hang out with John at Alltackle...and hit the Breakfast Cafe a few times...
