  1. I buy the small tubes of Solarez Flex off Amazon for $8.00 or so. I don’t use a lot so a small tube lasts me a long time. I’ve never tried them, but they sell other UV cures that are inexpensive. Just not sure how they cure. SF
  2. I’m pretty much a beach bum when it comes to my saltwater fishing. I got an invite last weekend from a friend to fish out of his boat. His boat is equipped with a Minn Kota Terrova bow mounted electric motor. The motor has spot lock which keeps you in place when the tide is moving. This is the first time I’ve seen one of these in action and it was fantastic for staying in the sweet spot and on the fish. Probably not a unique experience for those who fish out of boats often but that spot lock technology is the real deal. I’d definitely add one of those should I become a boat owner again. SF
  3. Kaufmann’s was my go to store for many years when I started fly fishing. Had some good conversations with Randall back in the day at their Seattle shop. Super friendly guy and very helpful. It was a sad day when their stores closed. SF
  4. Way too bright and sunny for good fishing this weekend, but found a few players early. I like the pre-spawn golden hues some of the fish take on. Saw some chum fry getting eaten, but that activity should pick up greatly in the next week or so. SF
  5. Some pink salmon fry patterns for this weekend. SF
  6. Lol, I’d love to do that but unfortunately he now lives on the other side of the state for his job as a warden. SF
  7. What is funny about the whole situation besides being checked there several times is I’ve fished there with my buddy at the same time of the year. He’s a WDFW warden. It would have been interesting if he was there. SF
  8. They own the tidelands to the low water mark, not the high water mark. See picture. So technically even if you were in the water, you could be trespassing. The state no longer sell the tidelands but unfortunately the damage was already done a long time ago. Some people are cool with you fishing on their beaches, others are outright ornery. Lots of big no trespassing signs and some great fishing beaches not open to the public. I knock on doors or chat up homeowners who are outside with the promise to be quiet and pickup litter. Some still say no. SF
  9. There are certain species that are headhunters where not having the trailer hook doesn’t matter much. Other species it really helps the hook-up ratio. Tie up a few both ways and see what gives you the best hook-up to take ratio for your intended target species. SF
  10. Was out driving around yesterday looking at beaches. Saw a homeowner playing with his dog so I stopped and asked if it was ok to fish his beach. He said no problem and that he was a fly angler himself. I tied up some flies I’ll send him as a thank you. I wish our state had never sold tidelands so they were all public, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. SF
  11. Had an interesting encounter with a gal last weekend. I was fishing a public park and a gal drove down, got out of her car and made a beeline for me. Her - Fishing is closed! Me - No it isn’t. Her - Yes it is, I just read the regulations. Me - No it isn’t. Her - Yes it is, I live right up there. Me - No it isn’t and I don’t care where you live. Her - Yes, it is closed. Me - No it isn’t. I’m fishing for cutthroat and they are classified as gamefish which are open year round in marine waters. You read the regulations incorrectly. Her - No, it is closed. Me - I’ve been checked by WDFW here before and it is open. Her - No, it is closed. Me - Please call WDFW or the sheriff and report me so they can tell you that you’re wrong. Her - It is closed. She then proceeds to walk over take a picture of my vehicle. I never set foot on private tidelands outside the park. I’m still not sure where exactly she lives. I think she assumed I was fishing for salmon, which is closed. Funny thing is, I’ve fished there at this time of the year with my friend who is a WDFW warden. Very interesting encounter to say the least. I didn’t get her name. Perhaps Karen? SF
  12. I may buy one for myself as a retirement present. I’ve always wanted to own a Scott rod after casting several different models (Radian, Sector and Meridian) my friends own. I’d cast one first with the lines I like to fish to see how I like it. I’ve found some mid range priced rods that work well for the fishing I enjoy, namely the Loomis IMX-Pro series. I’d likely sell another rod that isn’t getting much use to offset the costs. SF
  13. Those look great. We fish one lake out my way that has a nice population of large, native coastal cutthroat. In the fall, there is a hatch of large brownish red dragons the fish go crazy on. My buddy started tying them without wings. His thought is they focus on the body shape. He gave me some and I must admit I was skeptical, but they worked great covering rises. He does the same now with damsels now. SF
  14. It really is. Just waiting for the first big wave of pink and chum salmon fry to out migrate. Some are around, but the cutts will really start going crazy once their numbers increase. It should happen in the next few weeks. SF
  15. Tried black v-rib for the parr marks on this one. SF
