  1. Lots of bait still around the marshes. Clouds of pinners ( wish i knew what they were) Im catching lots of 12-16 ish popping on the surface. All just off the high....draining out. Great fun on light tackle. Im focused on proving my late season striper obsession, that they are here but we just quit fishing. ❤
  2. Hey Did well in the surf, "FIona" didn't disappoint.! Jig heads, in the blustery northwesterlies Still around
  3. I fished an estuary outflow early this morning, in the sheepscot/ Kennebec watershed. First significant cold front of the year brought crisp winds and cold temps. The dried leaves were rattling across the pavement as i left the shipyard at midnight. The fishing did not disappoint. I fished small plugs and plastics. Caught just shy of 2 dozen, all tiny but fun. Fish popping at the surface on clouds of sand eels like i have never seen before. All top water action. So much fun
  4. Yes, thats how it happened for me, kinda big, small dorsal fin, way aft of where a porpoise should have a dorsal fin. Then it came .in side ways showing its giant ventral fins. Minke off the beach, first for me
  5. Long time listener, rare contributer It was the outgoing tide here on the midcoast last night. midnight to 6am this morning (thursday) I fished an estuary outflow across a beachy area. 200 yards beyond were i was casting a minke whale was side fluking bait pods. Just at sunrise, by itself. Originally thought it a porpoise, but after research today i am confident it was a minke, too large for porpoise Ill be out tonight , 13 feet of water going out in 6 hours and 12 minutes The biggest tide of the season tonight, hoping you are all well. D
  6. ....stripers just around the corner
  7. 32 inches caught from shore, put the hook into my finger during the release, dead so took it home. I released a 42" and 45" just prior. All from shore mid coast maine. Live eels. Out of work at BIW...been pretty depressed. So, today was good
  8. Love that black plug for a grassy edge at first light
  9. Fishing is hope. Fishing is faith. I need all of it. Please.
  10. Switched it up this morning and headed for the sand. About 0430, i watched small deer walk into the surf (flat) and swim straight out, no hesitation. About 50 yards away from my spot, headed for an island, quite far. Strange, it just plowed in and kept going till i lost sight. I got the feeling it wasn't its first time. Then on my walkout....these glorious fish, caught in a cut-off slough and being pecked by gulls.
  11. I have been having great success with white/light top water plugs at first light on mud flats and eel grass
  12. Big moon, big tides tonight. I hear the full moon and warming water of june puts the big old spawners on the mud flats?! My strategy for tonight
  13. They were feisty fat with deep black lines vs.. lighter colors i see on them later in the summer on the beaches. No critters on them either. First fish in may in maine
