J
The Cleveland Browns have finally been punished for textgate with the team being fined $250,000 and general manager Ray Farmer being suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season. The Atlanta Falcons pumped in fake crowd noise to their stadium. Falcons were 10th in the NFL in attendance last season, so why they needed to do this in the first place is just, well, dumb. But they did, and so they too were punished fined $350,000, docked a fifth-round pick, and team president Rich McKay will be forcibly removed from the competition committee starting April 1. HugeDinghy
both punishments seem pretty excessive. Edited March 30, 2015 by HugeDinghy
iphish
I agree, seemed harsh. The falcons answer to it all seemed pretty straight up.....

StickinLips
So they investigated, confirmed, and fined two teams for their actions but yet still no word on deflategate, probably because it was a witch hunt to begin with.
HugeDinghy
IIRC, and I dont feel like double checking, you can (or could at one point) pump noise in, but like a basketball or baseball game, all fake noise has to stop at very specific times so the play can go on without the artificial noise. Garriga
What's the big deal if a team pumps in artificial noise. Some stadiums just aren't loud enough on their own. Reason Seattle has the so called 12th man. Teams with quiet stadiums are at a disadvantage. Let them roar but to make it fair have the noise on all the time. Make teams who have that fan noise advantage pump in the same volume when their offense is on the field. League wants parity and fairness then have at it equally across all playing fields. Sudsy
The texting fine seems a bit harsh. It cost 250k and a suspension to not walk down a flight of stairs ? The Falcons punishment seems about right if not a bit lenient - what they did was to try and change the balance of the games in a way that's against the rules. That's the very definition of cheating. The Pats are in a bind what with losing players to free agency. Krafts buddy Goodell won't take those much needed picks away, no way no how. The ruling will come down after the draft. I think that's the point, it's only being pumped up when the other team is calling their signals. Limit it to music would be the simple solution. And that is probably what is at fault here, is they went to crown noise a incorrect times.

HugeDinghy
this deflategate thing is almost as embarrassing to the league as the ray rice fiasco. just makes them look like they have no idea what they are doing.

Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if the decision comes out that "no conclusive evidence" was found to indicate any tampering by the patriots or other NFL team ( the colts).....an exhaustive investigation, better controls and accountability by the NFL will be in place going forward, blah blah blah......
