Kings over Queens
It's 3pm, and on a school baseball field somewhere in my town my son and a bunch of others are about to start a scrimmage as the final stage of their tryouts for their team. What started out at around 125 kids will be whittled down to 22, 7 being 7th graders. A year ago I couldn't conceive that he'd make the team, but since then I've seen him develop, grow, and become a very good player, and dare I say, Athlete. Is he one of the best 7 in his class? I don't know. I hate to sound like one of "those Dad's", but I'll be dipped if he doesn't impress me every time I see him play. God I hope he does well and makes it. He's worked so hard, all winter, every waking moment, towards this goal. I'm very proud of him. sicrado 1 #otterlivesmatter
Lucky
Lets go little KOQ!!!! "Lucky" is a fictional character on the interwebs. Nothing "Lucky" says or does can be or should be construed as a real thought by an actual person. Objects in your rear view mirror may appear to be closer than they actually are. MikeMc
He's worked so hard, all winter, every waking moment, I'd be proud of him for that alone. Good luck to him. I hope his hard work pays off. You know it must be a penguin bound down if you hear that terrible screaming and there ain't no other birds around. makomakoman
I hope he makes it. It is tough when you have to whittle it down. Especially at that age. 125 trying out is alot of kids for baseball. I think we had 25 tryout for each 7th and 8th grade team back at my school and we were considered a baseball school RIP Innis - April 9th 2012 - you always be in my heart. Kings over Queens
Curiousity killed the cat: Why are you on SOL and not there? Funny you ask. I was just posting on a coaching website where I participate, on a thread about this very subject, that being the negative influence parents can have while attending school practice. No way I'd observe his tryouts. His performance is between him and his coach. I would hate it if my presence influenced the coach one way or the other. He's got two feet my kid, he needs to stand on them, on his own. #otterlivesmatter
makomakoman
I always appreciated a coach closing tryouts to Parents. RIP Innis - April 9th 2012 - you always be in my heart.

But as you've well stated, I had not considered that might not be in the best interest of the player. Worse would be the player worried more about impressing the parent(s) than the coaches and potential teammates. still counting...

Tom T
yeah, but your guy is already on the team. Please wish T-Bone luck for me. The was for me being an idiot and planning my day around a scrimmage. An hour away from home.

Dude, I don't think you are an idiot. On a day like today, there aren't too many other things I'd rather be doing than watching my kid and his teammates play baseball. Enjoy it! I'm a little jealous. #otterlivesmatter
