A little over a month ago I went out to buy a bait/diamond jigging set up for bass and blues in the LI sound. I came back with a great diamond jigging set up, a Calcutta 400 on a 6' Tica Wasabi rod. I love it but it's not right for bait fishing. With Christmas coming up, I have to submit my christmas list to the wife soon!

What kind of rod/reel set ups are you guys using for bunker chunks and eels?If you could, let me know and if you want post some pictures too. Thanks for all of your help.

I just bought a house in Florida and it has a realy nice pool in the backyard surounded by a fence but they concreted the entire yard. I want to cut some holes in the pad to plant some small palm trees and other plants around the pool. I know the right tool is a cutoff saw with 12 inch diamond blade but I dont want to buy one for this one job. Im thinking of drilling some holes at the corners with my hammer drill and then using cheap masonary blades to cut down 1/2 inch or so. Then I thought I could break cleanly with a masonary chisel and maul. I might end of doing some serious damage though. Anybody got any ideas?

I have an 8ft Bass Pros Shop inshore classic rod rated 1/4 to 5/8 - It is high modulus (54millionths) built with 8 very small guides (Fuji Concept I'm guessing) - It throws a bomber very well- The rod is very fast (too fast for my liking with braid) My question is - If I remove the small guides and go with 4 guides (40 - 30 - 20 -16) would I now have a slower rod?

The goal of my experiment is to soften/slow the blank and up the sweet spot to say 5/8 to 1 ounce - What do you all think?

I got up early as always (around 0430), I tend to get more done that time of day. Had another pretty morning sunrise and I was wishing I had time for a fishing trip. I decided to head to the Buckroe Fishing Pier in Hampton Va. for the Fishing for Food Foodraiser. I met some very enthusiastic Hampton Parks and Recreation ladies.They do a great job at the pier, it is the nicest and cleanest fishing pier I have been on.
Saw Matt of Bass Pro, Don Lancaster of Fishing Tidewater and Mark of Virginia Coastal Access Now. They were all helping out and offering tips on Pier and Surf Fishing.
I am sure this was a successful and fun event, I was only there for a couple hours. For those interested Buckroe Pier is having a Striper Tournament on December 11-13th with some great prizes. For info call (757)727-1486.
I had a fun morning. Tomorrow I will be fishing at CBBT. Here are some pics from today.

The RM Olive/Purple/White 2 ounce swimmer and the T-Bone Scaled Bunker peanut were in my surf bag at one time or another and got wet but are otherwise in good condition. The T-Bone Painted Gill Scaled Bunker straight-lip swimmer was fished only a couple of times and got a small scuff on the belly from a rock so I retouched the belly with hard-as-nails - otherwise it's in great condition. The Megabait JB-150 was fished and has scuffs in the finish like most Megabaits get from fishing just a few times...;)

I just got off the roof, spent a bit of time today inspecting the chimney at the house, and doing a bit of cleaning.

We have a really nice Quadra fire insert with a blower. It burns really well and I have been pretty happy with it.

Unfortunately it was never installed with a full stainless liner all the way to the top of the chimney.

What is currently installed is a SS flexible direct connection setup. This isn't the huge fire hazard that the original fireplace inserts were used with, but it is a pain the ass to clean.

It looks like I will need to pull the fire place insert to finish cleaning the chimney.

Does any one have any starter info about installing a full chimney liner.

I bet that would be safer, build up less creosote since it was a smaller diameter, draft better, and be way easier to clean, with ash falling into the firebox instead of the direct connect shelf.

Any tips about pulling this thing out? I don't think I can burn until I do so, now that I brushed all of that crap down the chimney. :o :beatin:

Cape Cod bay still has enough bait holding to keep the Blue fin Tuna around and that is a good thing as hopfully we are planning to get out next week for one more trip. We were blown away from our last attempt, but if the weather holds who knows. The boat will have a pair of 130 pound class reels to break in,if we can find a way to secure them with out losing them.[New holders are a must with these babies]

So long Momma Bass and Momma Blue fish, hello smelt and Blue Bullets:D

I was sitting in a seminar in Dallas this morning when my phone rang. It was Herm. I text her back that I couldn't answer at the moment. She text me back that the restaurant beneath her apt building was on fire and her whole building was just evacuated. Well, needless to say I left the seminar and immediately called her back.

Most important she's fine. Extremely shaken up and upset, but not hurt. Her apartment was filled with smoke. She got her phone wallet and stuffed animals, which are very important to her (sorry magish, but Francis is TX with me ;) ) and got right out of there.

Unfortunately her apartment is the one directly over the kitchen of the restaurant. They used her living room to access the fire from above. At least that's what I gathered from talking to her. Her front door, living room floor and windows are in pieces. The entire place suffered water and smoke damage. All of her stuff lest some clothes cannot be salvaged.

In case you don't know she is resident of San Fransisco and is only in NY on a one year contract. As such she has no real friends or family in NY other than me. So my 20 day tour of the U.S. has taken a detour back home to give her some support. She's really shaken up and is staying at my place for, well who knows for how long.

 Back in 1989, the Democrat House, led by Ways and Means Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, passed the ‘Catastrophic Health Care Act.’ The Act promised to expand coverage and benefits, financed by a surcharge on senior’s existing Medicare benefits. Passage of the Act sparked on outcry from seniors. CBSNews goes back into the archives to find footage of one of the protests.

The report forgets to mention that Congress quickly repealed the Catastrophic Act in response to the voter backlash. Something current Members of Congress might want to keep in mind.
The problem for today’s Democrats is that the PelosiCare bill they are being pressured to support has a lot more to anger seniors than just a modest surcharge. Between the cuts to Medicare and numerous higher taxes, more people will lose under this bill than gain. That’s very dangerous politics. Again, if a small surcharge, in exchange for more benefits, was enough to spark protests that rattled on Old Bull like Rostenkowski, imagine the backlash when seniors realize they will lose lots of benefits in exchange for…nothing. Rostenkowski was genuinely surprised by the protests. After Tuesday’s elections results, however, Democrats can’t say they weren’t warned.
Below is a list of the cuts to Medicare contained within PelosiCare:

$170 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage (MA) which currently provides benefits to more than 11 million seniors.

o The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts these cuts “could lead many plans to limit the benefits they offer, raise their premiums, or withdraw from the program.”
o CBO also predicts 3 million seniors will lose the plan they currently have and the non-partisan Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) predicts these cuts will result in 1 in 5 seniors no longer having access to an MA plan;

$143.6 billion inacross-the-board cuts by instituting a new, permanent “productivity adjustment” to reimbursement rates for all hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), hospice, clinical laboratories, and durable medical equipment (DME);

$56.7 billion in cuts to home health agencies by freezing payment rates in 2010, applying the productivity adjustment, and other reimbursement changes;

$42.3 billion in cuts to the Medicare prescription drug program (Part D) by imposing government price-controls for drugs. As a result, CBO predicts seniors’ premiums will increase by at least 20%;

$23.9 billionin additional cuts to SNFs by freezing their payment rates in 2010;

$14.3 billion in provider reimbursement cuts by reallocating Medicare funding nationally;

$10.3 billion in additional cuts to hospitals by slashing reimbursements designed to cover uncompensated care;

$9.3 billion in yet further cuts to hospitals that have a high rate of readmitted patients;

$8.2 billion in undisclosed cuts determined by the new, unelected “Center for Medicare Innovation;”

$5.3 billion incuts to inpatient rehabilitation facilities cuts by freezing payment rates in 2010;

$3 billion in reimbursement cuts to providers who use imaging equipment (MRI, CT scans, etc);

$1 billion cut to physician-owned hospitals, effectively legislating these hospitals out of existence. In some communities, physician-owned hospitals are the only hospital in the community.

$800 millionin additional DME cuts (power wheelchairs); and

Plus, $14.5 billion in additional miscellaneous cuts to the Medicare program.

So I think we've ID'd the Shad from a post last week. They have been very active under the light at night, and hitting small FinS on light jigheads. Today I was out in the main channel (ICW) and I see small splashes off in the distance. As the school moved closer they were acting just like adult bunker, flips and splashes covering a wide area, but nothing that would indicate something bigger underneath. I threw a weighted treble over the school and started rippin it back. A quick snag and I reel it in..........it was a Shad. It was a large baitball/pod/school of Shad behaving just like bunker:squid: Can't remember ever seeing this before.
