Greetings folks, let me tell you about SurfChat. The goal behind providing this tool to you is the same as all the other tools here, to solidify our community through real-time communication, to share knowledge, and ultimately, to help everyone catch more fish! We've had some killer good times on the chat in the past, we've had some real serious discussions, and we've really gotten to know each other. New folks are welcomed all the time, you will be treated courteously and respectfully. It's much more popular in the off season, when we are but dreaming of fishing, but a recent increase in interest has prompted us to reiterate the usefulness of real-time discussion. The rules there are simple, at all times, treat everyone in the room with the same respect that you personally would demand. Don't bring any baggage in there, we're all friends, we're all fishermen, and you're all welcomed here as invited guests. No foul language, nothing inappropriate for the youngest of striper hunters, keep it clean...to be removed from one area of StripersOnline is to be removed from all areas. We've only had to remove a couple folks out of the thousands that visit us daily, we take extreme pride in the quality of the information exchanged here and in the respectful atmosphere in which it is provided and will take all measures necessary to protect both. In the rare event that anyone feels someone is misusing the chat room, using foul language, or just being generally disruptive, shoot me an email - it's at the end of this paragraph. You will remain anonymous and I'll look into it immediately. It's not a threat, it's my personal promise that everyone, men, women, and children, will feel comfortable and at home everywhere on StripersOnline. Again, we take this very seriously. That's it, one rule, same rule applies to this entire site, it's certainly a simple one and it's allowed us to give all of you very much freedom in every aspect of this site, you have all made us very proud and I thank you.
Sincerely,
Tim Surgent and StripersOnline |
Technical
Issues w/ SurfChat
In general, be certain that you are using
the latest version of whichever browser you prefer.
For those of you with AOL or IE5.0 and having problems with this JAVA chat room, please follow this link to the Microsoft Virtual Machine Update:
http://www.microsoft.com/java/
Once you get there, download the VM Update for your specific version of IE. To find out which version you are running, click on "help" and then "about IE" at the top of the screen. Download the file to a directory and make a note of the directory where you downloaded it. Once it's done downloading, using Windows Explorer, go to that directory and double click on the file that you just downloaded. Once installed, your problems should be history!
There really aren't any known problems
with the chat and Netscape, so long as you are fairly current in version. I've
not tried any Netscape versions earlier than 4. If you are using Netscape and
having problems, try downloading a newer version from the good folks at Netscape!
